When you think of a rising cricket star, it’s often raw talent, natural ability, and a flair for the game that come to mind. But for Bhuvi Ganghas, the winner of Emerging Batter of the Year in the CricHeroes Awards 2025, it’s not just about talent. Her story is defined by discipline, focus, and the relentless effort she puts in every single day.

A Journey that started at 8

Bhuvi’s cricket journey began when she was just 8 years old. Growing up in Ghaziabad and Motinagar, Bhuvi was introduced to cricket by her father, Ajay Kumar, a former cricketer who played in major tournaments like the CK Naidu and Vinoo Mankad Trophy.

One day, while playing cricket on their terrace, Bhuvi’s father realized that she had something special. He decided to guide Bhuvi and train her, and thus began her cricketing journey. What followed was a commitment to hard work, shaped by her father’s mentorship

“The first time I saw her playing in a match, I realized she was special,” says Ajay Kumar.

“My father was my first coach,” Bhuvi says.

“The mornings were tough, but cricket was my passion. The long hours on the field were worth it.”

Bhuvi’s parents, both teachers, supported her dream while also instilling the importance of education. Her father, an assistant professor, and her mother, a school teacher, made sure that Bhuvi balanced her academics with cricket, emphasizing the importance of discipline in both fields.

A daily routine of commitment

Today, Bhuvi’s training schedule remains just as intense. She starts her practice every morning at 6:30 AM and continues until 7:00 PM, hitting 1,000 balls and practicing various drills to improve her technique. Before heading to the field, she spends time working on her hanging ball technique, completing 500 knocks to sharpen her reflexes and improve her coordination.

“Bhuvi hasn’t missed a single practice session in the past two years,” says her father.

Her commitment to consistency and focus is evident in her daily routine. Bhuvi doesn’t just rely on her natural talent; she understands that only through discipline can she reach the highest level.

What sets her apart

What truly sets Bhuvi apart is her maturity and understanding of the game. She adapts to each situation, reads the conditions, and plays according to the game’s requirements. It’s not just about technique—it’s about playing the game with a deep understanding of what’s needed.

As Anurag Tyagi, her coach, puts it:

“Bhuvi is always ready for the next challenge, and you don’t have to tell her anything. She does it by herself.”

This mentality has made Bhuvi a standout player, and it’s one of the key reasons for her success. Whether it’s adjusting her shots or taking a calculated approach to a game situation, Bhuvi’s maturity on the field sets her apart from her peers.

Bhuvi’s Stats

Bhuvi’s stats are a clear reflection of the hard work and dedication she has put into her game. Here are the numbers:

  • 241 matches played
  • 6,901 runs scored
  • 12 centuries
  • 51 half-centuries

In 2025, Bhuvi played 109 matches, scoring 4,542 runs, further proving her consistency and ability to perform at a high level year after year.

The number 10 and her dream

Bhuvi’s journey isn’t just about runs and centuries. She also has a dream to give her T-shirt number a special identity in women’s cricket. Similar to how Sachin Tendulkar’s number 10 became synonymous with excellence in men’s cricket.

“I want my number to stand for something to signify discipline, hard work, and success,” she says.

Bhuvi’s ultimate dream is to open the batting for India and win matches for her nation.
With this vision and her discipline, Bhuvi’s future in cricket looks incredibly bright.

What makes her the emerging batter of the year?

Bhuvi’s journey is a testament to the fact that discipline can take you places where natural talent alone cannot. While many young cricketers rely on their ability, Bhuvi understands that success comes from consistent effort and dedication.

As her coach, Anurag Tyagi, says:

“Talent is not enough. Discipline is what makes the difference.”

It’s not just her cricketing talent that earned her the title of Emerging Batter of the Year. It’s her relentless dedication, her understanding of the game, and her ability to stay focused on her goals, no matter how challenging the path ahead.
