Grassroots cricket in 2025 was vast in both scale and spread.

In 2025, 48,72,624 matches were scored. That works out to an average of 13,350 matches a day, around 4,06,000 matches a month, and more than 9 matches every minute.

Those numbers make one thing clear. Grassroots cricket is not a small corner of the sport. It is active, continuous, and deeply present across the cricketing ecosystem.

The mornings led the action

The busiest hour of play in 2025 was 7 am, with 4,57,273 matches recorded at that time. Other high-activity hours included 8 am, 9 am, and 10 am.

21 December recorded the highest number of match starts in the year, with 48,259 matches. The strongest date-hour overlap came at 9 am on that same day, with 5,513 matches. December was also the busiest month overall, with 5,73,249 matches.

Where cricket was played

Grassroots cricket spanned 142 countries, 7,315 cities, and 631 states or regional units in 2025, with 15 new and emerging regions added during the year.

Delhi NCR recorded the highest number of matches at 3,29,505. It was followed by Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Mumbai, Pune, and Ahmedabad.

Formats played in 2025

Short-format cricket under 20 overs accounted for 44,79,194 matches. Formats of 21 overs and above accounted for 3,93,430 matches.

Tennis-ball cricket led with 33,42,351 matches, while leather-ball cricket recorded 13,28,755 matches.

The player base remained massive

In 2025, there were 1,23,80,543 active players, 19,60,338 active teams, and 1,03,56,442 newly registered cricketers. 1,83,459 players aged 40+ remained active. The average active player featured in 8.44 matches.

The ecosystem extended beyond players

Grassroots cricket was supported by 2,38,041 community members across roles such as organisers, scorers, umpires, commentators, and streamers.

3,95,520 tournaments were conducted across 1,87,779 grounds, with an average of 8 matches per tournament.

The game was also being captured and analysed

6,106 matches were streamed through CricHeroes Capture across 570 grounds and 689 tournaments. 17,303 matches had AI-generated highlights, with an average of 19 highlights per match. Performance Insights were delivered to 3,46,055 players.
