In cricket, people usually notice the scorecard first. The hundreds, the records, the big innings. What they don’t always see is everything that happened before that moment.
Priyanshu Moliya’s story lives in that space. Between the runs everyone talks about and the sacrifices very few notice.
Today, he is known for scoring heavily at every level. India Under-19. Back-to-back centuries on Ranji debut. Consistent performances for Baroda. But for Priyanshu, none of this came easily.

When it started to look serious
Priyanshu was born in Rajkot, Gujarat, and started playing cricket at the age of eight. Like most kids, it began casually. But one moment changed how his father saw it.
While playing together, his father noticed something different. The bat swing did not look like a beginner. It looked natural. It looked complete.
That was enough.
He was taken to a local summer camp with no long-term plan. But within a few sessions, assistant coaches told his father this was not just a hobby. He should train properly.
That early push made a difference. But what came next mattered even more.
When support becomes sacrifice
Priyanshu’s father worked in the diamond industry. Life was stable, but not easy enough to take big risks. Still, when cricket started demanding more time, he made a bold decision.
He left his job and gave his full time to Priyanshu’s cricket. Practice. Matches. Travel. Everything revolved around one goal.
“If you want to gain something, you have to give something up.”
Priyanshu understands this deeply.
“Jab aap dekhte ho apne parents ko sacrifice karte hue, aap cheezo ko granted nahi le sakte.”
That mindset stayed with him. Cricket was never taken lightly.
Chasing growth, not comparison
Priyanshu spent his early years in an environment where match quality was not very high. His coach suggested a move to a better setup with stronger competition.
He joined MLACA in Baroda and focused on one thing — runs.
- First year: 1100 runs
- Second year: 1500 runs
- Included a 556-run innings
That phase built his hunger.
“Maine kabhi dusre players ko dekh ke nahi khela.”
He never compared himself with others. His focus stayed on improving his own game.
He always chose tough competition. Because when the opposition is strong, mistakes are not allowed.
Turning performances into opportunities
Once opportunities came, Priyanshu made sure they counted.
- Vice-captain at Baroda Under-16
- Strong performances in Cooch Behar Trophy
- Selected for NCA camps for three consecutive years
- India Under-19 selection
Then came domestic cricket.
He made his Ranji debut in 2022 and scored two back-to-back centuries. A record that stood for 70 years was matched. Only one player from Gujarat had done it before.
“Koi aisi tournament nahi jisme usne run nahi banaye.”
This year in Vijay Hazare, he scored 380+ runs with two centuries.
But even now, he sees these as steps, not achievements.
Mindset that keeps him grounded
Priyanshu does not carry pressure into the game. He believes expectations can affect performance if you allow them to.
“I try not to take too much pressure. Main bas match winner banna chahta hu.”
That clarity shows in his game. Calm. Focused. Aware of the situation.
At the same time, he knows what cricket has taken from him.
“Bohot saari cheeze nahi hui hai cricket ki wajah se.”
Still, he is at peace with it. Because for him, cricket has always been the first priority.
His father sums it up perfectly:
“This is just the start. You have not even seen his real cricket yet.”
